Moving emails from one thunderbird to the next

I have located the profile files, but now I am at a loss as to how to do this.

On one computer, I have some emails. On another I have all my old emails. I want to move my old emails over to the new computer. But the directions I have seem a bit unclear on how I can combine the emails from both PCs without overwriting anything that might be important.

I'm using Vista. I just want to combine two email profiles onto one thunderbird.

One profile would be easy enough. Combining two profiles is a bit trickier. It's going to depend on if you are using an IMAP-based server, or a POP-based server. Do you happen to know which you are using?

If it's POP based, this might just work for you.

You shouldn't be able to combine them easily since Mozilla uses SQLite instead of a flat XML or other config file. You can try to export/import and see if it will merge it with the new computer.

Also you can try the Windows easy file transfer wizard or transfer wizard to see if it can move it. Back up your existing profile first obviously as I do not know if it will merge it or delete it and replace it with an old one?

I distinctly recall doing this before, where one profile was inserted into another. I just don't recall how it was done.

It was a long time ago.

I was thinking of... copying from the following file:
Old Drive:\Users\My Name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxx.default\Mail

and adding it to the same location of the new drive. with name changes to avoid complications. Would that work?
